OUR MULTI-SENSORY ROOM IS AN IMAGINATION WORKSHOP FOSTERING SOLUTION-FOCUSED OUTCOMES
According to a study conducted between 1995-1997 in New Haven, Ct, 16% of 7 to 11 year olds had recognizable symptoms of SPD, Sensory Processing Disorder, this approximates to 1 in 6 children. (Ben-Sasson Et.al, 2009) We believe the numbers are probably much higher, as so many people are unaware they have a sensory issue in the first place. Unfortunately, there are still so many social stigmas to having any kind of label attached to ourselves or one of our family members. For this very reason, we have created safe and individually personalized multisensory room experiences; a place where everybody postpones judgment for understanding.
Our multisensory room is an imagination workshop, providing special environments, capable of creating encounters that focus on one sense at a time. The senses can be isolated or individually focused on, touch, taste, vision, sounds, smell and additionally the less concrete senses of well being, safety, space, time, connectedness, as well as many other abstract senses we all experience and share. There’s a host of ways our imagination workshop can engage the full range of senses, special sounds and visual effects achieved through fiber optic lighting, tactile and kinesthetic dark rooms, vibrations, aromas, music and many other integrated combinations of sensory inputs.
The end product is a unique space where children and their families can come to decompress and relax in a multi-integrated room they can control and engage all the stimuli. This kind of flexibility gives many individuals a new found sense of control over their lives. Empowering every person facing challenging life issues to reshape and influence their everyday environments with solution-focus outcomes. Our multisensory room has been utilized by people of all ages and ability levels to obtain greater degrees of relaxation, concentration, stimulation, control, aromatherapy, massage, stress relief, mental reset and anxiety relief, just to name a few. Our special space is a dark room and is very calming yet, the versatility allows us to add more light as necessary.
This kind of control and planning of sensory input has been shown to assist individuals with autism, challenging behavior issues, brain injuries or T.B.I’s, developmental delays, disabilities, dementia, P.T.S.D, anxiety, focus and attention issues, pre and post surgery, mental stability and stimulation concerns, as well as a host of other sensory input and processing stimuli. This is a place that fosters a new found sense of well being, increased self confidence, understanding and self awareness that cultivates more meaningfulness and creates the perfect safe place where your imagination is without limitations. Joshua’s Java House multisensory room provides an integrative experience, through touch, visual effects, sounds, smells and aromas, reset rooms, dark play rooms, calming pod and weighted blanket, just to name a few. These encounters provide individuals with any kind of debilitating, challenging or traumatic life issues, with positive action steps to reshape and positively influence their own environments through the use of multi-integrated technologies.
