Moments with M.I.C.A.H
“DO WE BEHAVE MALADAPTIVELY BECAUSE WE ARE ILL OR ARE WE ILL BECAUSE WE BEHAVE MALADAPTIVELY?”
Have you ever been overwhelmed by children with challenging or out of control behavior issues? Do you ever wonder if there’s a better way or wish you had more ideas or skills to empower you to address issues in your daily parenting and/or teaching role? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this workshop is for you. Moments with Micah is a behavioral intervention system of care designed for children with challenging behaviors. This method has proven successful in extinguishing difficult behaviors in strong-willed children; as well as children with developmental disabilities. This method teaches basic and advanced behavioral intervention techniques from a very user-friendly format.
Our presenter, Dr. T. James Kimble, has over 20 years experience working with youth and children with behavioral issues; including his own son who has Down Syndrome. Discovering that behavior, even maladaptive behavior, is communication creates a shift in thinking about how we approach and respond to out of control behaviors; especially in children. As we explore challenging behavior issues, we come face to face with tough questions.
One of those questions should be, “Do we behave maladaptively because we are ill or are we ill because we behave maladaptively?” Find answers to these types of probing and difficult questions; as well as a pragmatic response system capable of reshaping the most difficult behaviors. This model promotes meaningful behavior interventions fostering consistent engagements that create clarification; thus, extinguishing even the most maladaptive behaviors.
