TRANSFORMATIONAL FAMILY CARE IS THE CREDO OF JOSHUA’S FRIENDS FAMILY SUPPORTS
Transforming families with dynamically designed family systems of care ensures a shared culture of compassion is available for families facing traumatic life issues, allowing our caring heart approach to be accessible at all levels of community. Our credo begins and ends with trauma-informed models of care creatively engaging families with meaningful community supports. That’s why we created a place where families facing traumatic life issues can feel safe to come and share their story in an environment where they can be empowered to start living beyond traumatic and debilitating life issues.
Creating these kinds of transformational family care experiences is in the DNA of our organization’s purpose for existing. Our family care lens removes the stigma and embarrassment from traumatic life experiences by exchanging the idea of “what’s wrong with me?” with the question “ what happened to me?” This approach provides “postpone judgement for understanding” encounters that meaningfully engage families in the empathy, empowerment, healing processes necessary to find closure and avoid future retraumatization. Family systems of care that are truly transformational must be trauma-informed through and through because trauma is absolutely real. A malady that time alone can not heal and occurs more often than many people are willing to admit. For instance, the adverse childhood experiences study (ACE) concluded that:
- “ More than 6 in 10 U.S. youth have been exposed to violence within the past year, including
witnessing violence, assault with a weapon, sexual victimization, child malnourishment, and
dating violence, nearly 1 in 10 was injured.”
- The study also noted that, “ predicted cost to healthcare systems from interpersonal violence and
abuse ranges between 333 billion and 750 billion annually, or nearly 17% to 37.5% of total
The study went on to conclude that these kinds of traumatic life experiences often have life long implications. This is the reason we have purposely and intentionally expanded our efforts to ensure a trauma-informed faith-based model of care is available at all levels of community. Our transformational care approach is empathetically person-centered and takes great care in ministering to the whole person, as well as their whole family. Our systems of care are family-friendly and are based on Family Life Pastoral Counseling models, many of which have been designed and developed by our founders Dr. T. James and Elizabeth Kimble. They respectively include:
Joshua’s Java House – At the Java House, it’s all about creating a place where: meaningful encounters, coffee conversations, friendships and family connections are happening around an interactive model of care and are part of our coffee house experience.
MwM Behavioral Interventions – This model promotes meaningful family-friendly behavior interventions fostering engagements that create clarifications; thus, extinguishing even the most maladaptive of behaviors.
Your Best Life Now Counseling – Our counseling approach is founded on over 20 years of research, working experiences based on best practices, and measured results stemming from our exclusive creation counseling design.
Influencer’s Cafe – Influencer’s Cafe is a coffee shop based peer to peer networking group that offers trauma-informed systems of care, for adults addressing all kinds of challenging life issues.
Ice Cream Reading Cafe – Joshua’s Friends has created Ice Cream Reading Cafe to provide elementary students a dynamically engaging reading experience that’s proven to reinforce basic reading skills. Welcome to “Ice Cream Reading Cafe”, now there is a place where every student can come and discover the skills to decode the English language and learn to love reading. We also serve a cup of ice cream to each student after the lesson.
Blaze “Beyond the Box” Baseball – Blaze baseball is an intentionally inclusive organized baseball team for individuals with disabilities and the primary emphasis is on players abilities, not their disabilities. Enabling us to work on strengths, self confidence building and playing at the highest level possible.
Living and Leading by Design – Living and Leading by Design is a family-friendly, trauma-informed approach providing transformational models of care for families facing debilitating, challenging, and traumatic life issues. This initiative has been designed by our very own Dr. T. James Kimble who uses the power of story to address hard-hitting life issues; from a solution-focused worldview that’s refreshingly faith-based.
