Nothing can prepare a parent for unexpected bad news at the birth of a child. There are so many expectations and the air is filled full of anticipation around the new arrival of this perfect baby!
Then with anxious hope, all mixed together the moment everyone has been waiting for finally arrives. A new person enters the world. But before all the excitement can really begin to fill the air, someone abruptly enters the room and says, “I think your son has Down Syndrome.

That is exactly what happened to my wife and me thirteen years ago when our, Joshua, was born. We were initially shell shocked and did not know how to react to such seemingly devastating news! How is a parent supposed to react to news that declares their child is less than perfect? “We’re really sorry, but your child has a serious birth defect.

My wife is now curious as we pack the car and she inquires about the book. I tell her that the book is about this lamb in some kind of Christmas story. (I did not tell her that the lambs name was Joshua). “Why not take it out and read it to the family as we drive back to the post.

Then suddenly noises came into the barn. It was the shepherds- the ones who had left little Josh behind. We saw a bright light and angels. They saw Joshua cuddled next to the baby. “Joshua, do you realize who this baby is?
